A floor is a build-up, not a covering
What you see at the end is the top of several layers. Whether the surface sits flat, feels calm underfoot and stays quiet is decided underneath it. That is why every job starts at the bottom.
Every floor starts with what the room already has. Screed, old coverings, timber boards and leftover adhesive all behave differently. None of that can be settled over the phone, only in the room.

A covering never evens anything out, it traces it. Dips, steps and old repairs are levelled before anything is laid. Otherwise the surface will work loose at exactly those points.

Between substrate and covering sits the layer that absorbs impact sound, holds back moisture from below and swallows any remaining unevenness. You never see it, and you notice it in every room.

Direction, starting course and joint pattern are set before the first plank goes down. A herringbone pattern stands or falls with its axis, a wide plank floor with the light coming in from the window.

We look at the substrate, measure up and check the height available at doors and thresholds. Only after that can anyone say anything reliable.

You receive a quote that states which build-up is going in, which covering is being laid and what preparation is included.

Preparation
Old covering out, surface cleaned, levelled and primed. This part often takes longer than the laying itself and decides how the result turns out.

Laying
Axis and starting course are set, then the surface runs through. Doorways are laid through wherever the build-up allows, so the space reads as one room.

Handover
Skirtings, profiles, final clean. We walk through the room with you before the work counts as finished.
When we can start depends on the current workload and on how dry the substrate is. You get a reliable answer to that after the site visit, not before it.

Seven pieces of work that add up to a finished floor. Any of them can be requested on its own.
Tiling, screed as a separate trade, underfloor heating and the sanding of old parquet are not part of this. If a project needs any of them, we say so early enough for you to plan around it.

Anyone laying floors in Kreis Heinsberg deals with two very different kinds of building. In the older village centres there is usually decades old screed under the existing covering, with adhesive residue, broken patches and a step at every threshold. There, the preparation decides the result.
On the newer estates at the edge of town the situation is reversed: the screed is flat but young, and it has to be dry enough before any covering is allowed on top of it. Both are ordinary here, and both start with the same appointment in the room.

01 Does the old flooring have to come out first?
Usually yes. Old coverings, adhesive residue and loose areas are taken up before anything new goes down. Whether it is possible to lay over the existing floor in a particular case depends on how sound and how flat it is, and that can only be judged in the room.
02 Which covering suits my home?
Three things decide it: what the substrate allows, how much the room has to take day to day, and how you want it to feel. Design flooring and laminate are the most robust in everyday use, parquet is the longest lived material, and carpet makes a room noticeably quieter. We go through it together during the site visit.
03 Do I have to buy the material myself?
No. The covering is chosen together and sourced for your project. We do not keep a flooring warehouse, which also means you are not tied to any particular range. If you would rather buy the material yourself, that works too.
04 How long does it take until the floor is down?
The laying itself is quick. What decides the overall time is the preparation: a clean, flat substrate saves a whole working step, an old covering with adhesive residue adds one. You get a reliable answer after the site visit.
05 Will you come out for a single room?
Yes. One bedroom, one hallway or one basement room is as much of an enquiry as an entire flat. Just say which room it is and roughly how large.
06 Do you lay tiles or carry out screed work?
No, neither of those is part of what we do, and nor is underfloor heating or the sanding of old parquet. Walls, ceilings, plaster and wallpaper are, which means a room can be finished in one go.
